AusHun ~ Just Give Me a Reason

Right from the start you were a thief

You stole my heart

And I your willing victim

I let you see the parts of me

That weren't all that pretty

And with every touch you fixed them

His nimble fingers danced across the black and white keys, making the piano sing with each tap of his finger. The music leaping as his fingers moved, stitching together the tapestry that was Beethoven’s Sonata No. 14.

His body began to rock with the emotion with the piece and the memories of days gone by.
Of the days where there was a woman sitting next to him, watching intently as his fingers performed pirouettes and devants across the ivory keys.

But now he was alone, nearly a hundred years from his divorce with nothing left but his memories of their union and a looming sense of loneliness.

He sighed before moving to his room to pack for the oncoming World Convention.

Now you've been talking in your sleep, oh, oh

Things you never say to me, oh, oh

Tell me that you've had enough

Of our love, our love

Hungary methodically swept at the floor letting out a sigh as Chopin Nocturne Op. 15 played on the radio. Memories flashed back to her stay at Austria’s house, she always knew if something upset him if that song began to ring out throughout the house.

Her fingers twitched to comb once again through his dark hair in an attempt to calm him whenever either Prussia or France had bugged him.

It’s almost been a hundred years.

She rested her head on the end of the stick of her broom and gave a sigh that reverberated throughout the empty house.

I’m getting sentimental in my old age.

Hungary sighed once again and returned to sweeping her floors once more.

Just give me a reason

Just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

It's in the stars

It's been written in the scars on our hearts

We're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

Austria quickly picked up the folder that was stuffed full with the various papers and notes that the country had to bring to the world meeting. He straightened out his tie one last time in the mirror before he heading out of the hotel room.

Just down a floor from Austria’s room was Hungary, who was currently brushing through her long slightly curly hair before pulling it up into a bun. She placed the iconic flower into the base of the bun and, after straightening her jacket and skirt and grabbing her notes and files, left the room.

She walked to the end of the hallway and pressed the elevator’s call button and waited for the doors to open.

Her eyes opened slightly in surprise at the resident already in the small confined space in the elevator, but she quickly swallowed her surprise and got in the elevator.

I'm sorry I don't understand

Where all of this is coming from

I thought that we were fine

(Oh, we had everything)

Your head is running wild again

My dear we still have everythin'

And it's all in your mind

(Yeah, but this is happenin')

“So it’s been a while,” Austria stated as Hungary positioned herself at the back of the elevator.

“Yeah,” she replied as the doors closed shut, awkwardness settling in the metal container.

“So… how have things been doing in your country?” her hand moved to pick at the hem of her sleeve.

“It’s been good, Kugelmugel has been a bit more eccentric than usual but that is to be expected,” he dragged his hair through his waves of hair.

“That’s good to hear,” silence once again settled as their bodies seemed to lift slightly as the elevator travelled down.

Austria gave a cough into the cuff of his deep navy suit as the elevator slowly stopped at the lobby.

“I’ll see you at the meeting then,” a stab of bitterness stabbed through her as he left without a look back

You've been havin' real bad dreams, oh, oh

You used to lie so close to me, oh, oh

There's nothing more than empty sheets

Between our love, our love

Oh, our love, our love

Her pen twirled around her fingers in an intricate dance, her other hand squishing against her cheek.

She caught the pen in a fist before raising that hand to cover a yawn that was brewing at the sound of the current country’s monotonous tone.

Placing the pen to the paper once more she dragged the metal tip against it. The blue line leisurely closed the circle of the doodle and then drew complimenting shapes around it.

With the side of the pen she fanned out, shading with light blue outward from the circle.

A collective groan was let out as America took the stand and started talking about GloboMan again.

Hungary glanced to the spot down the table were Austria was sitting. Her heart fluttered at the sight of the prim aristocrat that she was still deeply in love with.

Just give me a reason

Just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

I never stopped

You're still written in the scars on my heart

You're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

God I need a drink, flitted through her head as America’s obnoxious plan continued to pound into her skull.

Good thing we all go to the bar after this.

“And though that experiment we have learned…”

“Firstly it’s learnt and stop bringing up this stupid plan,” Great, now England was going to argue with him, “it’s not going to bloody work.”

Another obnoxious entered the midst as France piped up, “If both America and England are fighting I will go with neither of their sides.”

“You bloody git you can’t do that…” England roared at France.

“Not cool dude, I thought after your help with the Revolutionary war you were kinda…”

“It’s ‘kind of’, git.”

“EVERYONE SHUT UP!”

I don’t need a drink I need the entire bottle, she thought rubbing her temple, as Germany’s voice reverberated through her skull.

Oh, tear ducts can rust

I'll fix it for us

We're collecting dust

But our love's enough

You're holding it in

You're pouring a drink

No nothing is as bad as it seems

We'll come clean

Hungary quickly stacked her papers, keen to leave early, as she overhead France talking to Spain.

“Are you going to the bar as well,” Francis’ hand placed on his hip as he turned from the conversation long enough to blow a kiss with the other and wink at a maid cleaning the table.

“Si, everyone is going to be there right?”

“Austria backed out, but that’s to be expected he never comes, and…”

Hungary thought back on the last few times that she had gone.

He hadn’t really come has he?

Determination rushed through her that she was going to his house and finally confront him.

This awkward feeling that had settled between the two countries had to come to an end.

Just give me a reason

Just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

It's in the stars

It's been written in the scars on our hearts

That we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

Hungary waited outside the bustling airport for the taxi to arrive to take her to Austria’s house and it wasn’t long before the car pulled up into the pickup area. Sign on the top proudly blazing it’s designation as one.

After taking a stop at the hotel to drop off luggage the taxi was quickly sent off to Austria’s house, when they reached the house Hungary quickly paid the driver both the fare and the tip and walked up to the mansion.

She knocked at the door and patiently waited as the sound of footsteps drew near. Austria’s startling purple eyes came into view as the chipping ornate door opened.

“Hungary, what a surprise,” a flinch fluttered through her at the use of her country name, it sounding harsh on the lips of a man who had always called here by her first name.

“Sorry to interrupt but may I come in,” she asked, resisting the urge to pick at the hem of her sleeve.

“Certainly,” his tone seemed aloof, especially when Hungary had memories upon memories where his tone was soft and loving.

As Hungary walked in she pulled of her coat and hung it on the coat stand in the corner of the entrance.

“Do you mind if we take this up in the music room?” Austria asked, “I was in the middle of something.”

“Of course,” she smiled and followed the pianist into his domain.

Just give me a reason

Just a little bit's enough

Just a second we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

It's in the stars

It's been written in the scars on our hearts

That we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

As the pair of them entered the room, Austria quickly walked to the piano and started shoving the manuscript paper on the piano rack together.

“So what is the reason for this pleasant surprise,” he asked, smacking the stack against the table.

“I need to talk to you.”

“I can see that,” he snidely remarked, “about what.”

“About this,” she responded, “About this awkwardness that has settled between us, about this cynical attitude you have seemed to adopt.”

“What happened to the man to the man who could always look at the bright side,” her voice was pitched slightly higher with the rage that coursed through her body.

“What happened to the man I married all of those years ago,” her stance carried herself as the warrior she was at heart, but behind her eyes hid the hurt that she felt.

He just harrumphed before turning his body back towards the piano and began playing a frantic concerto. Despite the calm façade that he carried, there was a swirling raging tornado roaring just below the surface.

“Are you just going to ignore me?” she angrily asked the air thickening with anger.

“Just give me a reason for all of this.”

“Why do you think that we matter anymore?” Austria snapped at the female country, his hands lifting from the ivory keys of the keyboard from the anger oozing through his skin.

“The Austrian-Hungarian Empire fell apart, our marriage fell apart,” he turned around, Chopin ringing clear through the air as he returned to his piano playing.

“The world moved on,” his voice returning to his calmer state, “and they no longer care about us. We no longer matter.”

Oh, we can learn to love again

Oh, we can learn to love again

Oh, oh, that we're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

“Because I still love you!” Hungary’s voice snapped Austria out of his depressed piano playing.

“That’s why I think this still matters,” she gestured at the house that had fallen desolate since the female nation had left.

“That’s why I think you still matter,” she took a moment to breathe, her eyes stinging with the desire to cry.

“Because I love you and I always have.”

Her arms had risen with the emotion of her outburst and soon fell as her enthusiasm waned. Her green eyes glanced to the side, suddenly unable to look at him as tears began to well up. She quickly turned away to leave as the first tear slipped out.

“But apparently I am the only who does.”

More and more trailed down her cheekbones as the resentment and bitterness at her former husband grew less and less with each drop of salty liquid. Something rustled behind her and she quickly tried to hide her tears.

But the attempt was quickly halted when Austria pulled her feminine body against his.

“I still love you as well,” was all he said before he pressed his lips against hers, finally reunited.

Almost a hundred years after.

A request from HaloStormHybrids.

I apologize for taking so long but it took a while to spew this out but I had difficulties with life problems and being extremely busy. Also with generally figuring out the flow of the plot, as I had the beginning and end thought out but not the middle so it took a weird combination of Earthbound and To the Moon music and DuckTales to inspire the middle sections.

I also don’t like the portrayal of the relationship in this.

:iconpapcryplz:

They aren’t supposed to be this distant and hawkward what is wrong with me.

Also the alternative title is Almost a Hundred Years as this could probably stand-alone without the song.

I found the preview pic on Tumblr and Just Give Me a Reason belongs to the respective song writers.
